Minimal OS
Brief
Minimal OS is a project, event, task and life management system that is minimal but functional. This setup is suitable for researchers, teachers, students (grad and undergrad), writers etc.
The philosophy behind this setup:
- Keep things minimal without sacrificing the functionality of the system.
- If you need your life to be simple and easily manageable, then do simplify your life by putting down the unnecessary and only hold the essentials.
Main Page
This is the main page.
On the top, the system has pre-set areas, which are Personal, Research, Work and Others. They represent:
-
Personal
- Travel (Write down your itinerary)
- Health (Manage your medical appointment)
- Wishlist (The products you want to buy; the movies you want to watch etc)
-
Research
- A place to work with our research project(s)
- Within each project, there are
- a scheduling section that can add and show project-specific events and tasks
- a built-in Zettlekasten, non-linear note system and writing planner allowing you to work with your existing notes
-
Work
- Jobs other than research (teaching, sharing, workshops etc)
- Within each project, there are
- a scheduling section that can add and show project-specific events and tasks
- a built-in Zettlekasten, non-linear note system allowing you to work with your existing notes
-
Others
- The Note System is a Zettlekasten system that contains main (create your own numbering system according to your preference) and bib notes (types -> book, literature, article, meeting note)
Next, the system has a master scheduling section handled by a master calendar. All events, tasks and medical appointments would be shown on this front page. Together with a simplified agenda view on its left, you won't miss a thing.
The master calendar's right is a quick capture section and the recently added bib notes.
To schedule your events and tasks, there are two ways:
- Click the button of "Add Personal Event" and "Add Work Event" on your front page first, which will create a pre-set page for you. After renaming that page to your events or tasks, then drag to the date you want and like them to your projects.
- Create your events and tasks inside your specific project pages.
